TOORAK RESIDENCE
After completing a successful commercial fit-out project for the client, Micio was engaged to complete an extensive residential interior renovation for the client's forever home in the prestigious suburb of Toorak, Melbourne.
Our mission was to infuse warmth and character into the space, elevating it to a level befitting its esteemed address. To achieve this, we implemented a complete redesign and modernization of the entire interior, thoughtfully revitalizing the basement, ground, and level 1 areas without making significant structural changes. The design direction artfully blended the timeless Hamptons style with contemporary elements and forms.
The client's brief for a bespoke modernistic Hamptons design started with a ground-up rebuild and specification, including new flooring, kitchen, furniture, decor, and custom joinery. Our team carefully selected, sourced, and specified materials, furnishings, decor, feature lighting, and commissioned artwork. We even reworked the old fireplaces into new dual-sided gas log systems.
Sustainability was another core priority in material selection, ensuring the lowest possible environmental impact during construction and for the family's future living. We aimed to preserve natural resources and create an environmentally conscious living space.
During the design process, we encountered several challenges, mainly due to the distinctive site conditions resulting from the house's original layout and concrete construction. The fixed form posed limitations on design possibilities, but we ingeniously leveraged industrial design to uphold the integrity of the main structure while breathing new life into the house's aesthetics within these constraints.
